Escape to the Camera by Diodri Setera
June 16th, 2008 1:53 AM
Dusk was falling over our sleepy city. The dust from the summer heat was whipped around on the wind. My friends where with my, standing on the hill top, over looking the shopping center.
"It's time." Jason whispered.
I nodded dully, unbelieving what we were about to do. We ran, drenched in black fabric, to the local shopping center. It was a smash and grab job, it had to be fast, smooth, but most of all, nothing could see our faces, that was the hardest part. Alex, our inside man assured us that the cameras had been disabled, but I was doubtful.
"You're sure you got all of them." I asked between breaths.
"Of course." Alex said, "It's my job." He said nothing else.
We had made it to Mega Mart. Jason hurled a brick through the window, and we all jumped in past the falling, shattered glass.
"Alex, Max. Cash registers. Dio, you're with me, electronics." Jason ordered.
We all ran to our tasks, adrenaline pushing through our veins. Breathe. Breathe.
Sirens called out to us from outside. We were busted.
"Shit! Jason cursed, "Someone tipped them off. Dio, make for the front, there's no windows back here. Split up, harder to catch."
We both ran our separate ways. I took the left, he ran right. I heard a steel rod connect with bone.
"Got one here." A gruff voice roared.
I made it to the far side of the store, I pulled my jacket closer to my face. I watched slowly out the front, but my ruse didn't last long. At the same time I heard a sergeant and a technician shout.
"THERE'S ANOTHER!"
and
"Cameras back online!"
I bolted to the far side of the building, straight at the wall. I could feel a cold glass eye looking at me, but before anyone knew it, I was over and gone. No one saw my face. I escaped the cameras.

A tale of adventure. Nice.
