Sexually Originated Art by Lincøln

October 21st, 2007 2:16 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: One theory of the evolution of art holds that humans developed such comparatively large and complex brains because they became a basis for the selection of a mate. This theory - which is perhaps unique in its language-agnosticism - holds that creating art was a good way to show off one's superior smarts. So, create a Work of Art that you believe will show off your brain power in a way attractive to your desired sex, and then test this - we like the idea of you toting a sculpture around to bars, but the survey method is up to you. Two notes, however: no cheating by just polling your significant other; and you must declare whether such a theory of the origin of art is "True", "Less True", "False", or "Less False", based upon your results.

While I was out tasking I decided to hit a double task completion (well, actually three at once, and you'll see that third one when it hits the praxis page soon, but I ain't spilling about that one just yet ***EDIT*** Here it is.***EDIT***), and while I was asking strangers to help me out with one task I was also hitting a select few for this task as well. In the total of 27 persons polled for that task I asked three to help me out with this task.

Now it should be pointed out that I am a very shy person. I don't talk to strangers and I have never asked a woman out on a date, much less approached a woman I didn't know and first talk to her and then ask her out. So because this task made me go out and talk to people (which was very very difficult for me), I also sucked it up and asked these three beautiful ladies to help me out here as well.

This is how it went down. First I asked them to title my photograph. During this time (while taking their photo) I was asking them questions and being generally flirty. Once they came up with their title, I would complement them on their choice and two out of three women polled asked me if I took the photo. Then I would switch gears and answer "Yes, now can I ask you a question?" they always said yes, sure. I would reply "This is going to be a personal and possibly embarrassing question (probably more for me than you)." they blush and ask me to ask away. So I ask "You had an impression of me when you first saw me and were talking to me, and I want to know if that impression has changed at all, for better or worse, now that you know I took that photo. And I mean specifically about a sexual attraction." All three girls blushed a little and then answered. Some beat around the bush a little and some came right out and answered.

This is how it went down.

This cool waitress in the empty restaurant was the first one I asked: "Contestant #1"
Contestant #1
I got up the nerve to ask her because she was very talky and flirty and fun and she asked if it was my photo, and when I told her it was she said it was very very good. I thanked her and then started my spiel which went exactly as outlined above. She immediately answered "Yes. More. Definitely more. I mean you're hot to begin with and then you started talking and I knew I liked you, and when I found out this was your work, that you're an artist with a vision, yes. More." Then I blushed. If I were the kind of guy who enjoyed one night stands, I could have had one that night. Instead I replied with something really dorky like "Wow, thank you. That's very kind. I'm... wow. OK. Thank you. And I have to go... Thank you." and I left.

This woman was working in a store that sells sexy outfits and lingerie. Among other things. "Contestant #2"
Contestant #2
When I walked past, I saw the little short dresses and thought they were square dancing dresses, so stopped and went in. When I saw what they were, I laughed and she looked at me and asked what was so funny, I explained that I thought they were square dancing dresses, and now realized they are much much different. She agreed that these dresses were much different. I asked her to help me out titling my photo, and she agreed. Her manager was standing at the other end of the counter staring at us. Giving me the hairy eyeball. I was going to leave and forget about this task when she asked if I took the photo, so I saw the opening to my spiel, which I went into. At the end of my little speech, she looked me up and down, looked at her manager, and leaned in close to me and said "More." She leaned back away from me and stared at me with eyes that dared me to do something about it. I looked over at her manager who looked very unhappy, and I thanked her and walked out.

This girl was our waitress when my cousin and I went out for lunch one day. "Contestant #3"
Contestant #3
I thought she was cute and she was giving me more attention than is customary, so I of course wanted to ask her, but my cousin was there at the table with me, so I was nervous. But when I asked her about titling the piece and she didn't answer right away, my cousin jumped in and started helping her with coming up with an answer. We both made her feel comfortable with some joking and fun. And just when it was over I asked her who she thought took the photo. She looked at the both of us, and her eyes landed on me. She said "You did." My cousin told her she was right, and then right there I went into it. I asked her my question. She didn't answer. She said she really couldn't answer. My cousin asked her to answer. I said it's gotta be either more, less or the same, right? So which is it? She blushed and tried to get out of answering, but finally she said "I guess more" and she walked away. But every time she came back to the table, she looked at me a little differently.

This was a very difficult task for shy me. But I would seriously encourage everybody to do it. Because I got some really ego boosting responses. And I only asked three ladies. I feel much better having done this. I was a nervous wreck before doing it, and feel much better after. I think it'd be much easier to do this task again. Thank you SFØ!

Were you brooding while you asked? Brooding artists always take the cake.

Wow. I wish I had that kind of moxie. I like this combination of tasks, too.

Sorry, Anna One, I was not brooding. Although I was probably visibly nervous and maybe that comes off as charming?

Damn! You got some randy women wandering around in Tucson! I love that SF0 brought out the Don Juan in you, and the Jessica Rabbit in them.

So much better than the real world.

Of course they're randy in Tucson. Did you know that Tucson spawned our very own Herø?

From my very birth I was naked! (The Suit came later).

3 for 3...how completely excellent! i wonder how much of the escalated attraction was due to the art making itself, and how much could be attributed to the fact that you were brave enough to ask :)

That's a fine question. But I was sure to ask specifically that whatever their impression of me before they saw and knew I had created the art, had it changed after they knew I had created the photo. So I think my polling is accurate. But why it increased is up for debate.

I am sure that you made the day of all three of those ladies!
