Recycleable fashion by Tricia Tanaka

March 15th, 2008 3:00 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make clothing out of trash. Simply wearing clothes found in the trash, however, would be rather boring.

This task was inspired by my love of tissue and plastic bags, which naturally make the best costumes.
Here are my two favorite tissue/plastic clothes.

The first is my trademark tissue tutu:  a great way to recycle tissue from gifts.
The second is a wrinkly cape to wear to your favorite store.

I tied a bunch of Christmas tissue around a ribbon and made this fluffy mess. It's great to wear places because it's short.

Central Market Cape

Central Market Cape

Central Market is a grocery store kind of like whole foods, but cooler. It's only in Texas so far, so none of you have probably heard of it. But anyways, I love the store, so I saved a bunch of bags and made a cape to wear whenever I go. (I also made a tie from a receipt, but I can't find it.)

After taping the bags together, I folded over the rough edges.

I then made a rope from the scrapes to secure the cape around my neck.

Here's another cape I made from Walmart bags.
