Journey to the End of the Night: Vienna 2010 by babe, *la nerdrice*
May 16th, 2010 10:46 AMLast night I had the feeling my skin is not waterproof. I can't remember being that soaked ever before.
This is the story of Checkpoint 6.
I know quite a couple of people who can be persuaded to almost anything by simply telling them they can wear a wig while doing it. That's basically how I recruited the team. "you know, we're planning on blablabla -the cool thing is, you can wear a wig!" "Okay cool, let's do it!"
Our Checkpoint was located on a pedestrian bridge that leads over Vienna`s west-trainstation. That's the perfect checkpoint as long as it doesn't rain. If it rains it's a bit wet up there and windy. And cold. And there's no bathroom near.
The journey's theme was history preenacment so we came up with preenacting a meteorit impact in the planet system.
We were 8 agents: Mecury, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Mars.

Mars was too late cause she had academic obligations that could not be delayed.
Anyway, what we were playing with the runners was meteorit-cricket.

They had to put the meteorits into one of the black holes without harming the planets (us) that were moving around on the green on elliptic orbits.
Also we had beautiful cookies and music from Captain Future, a german cartoon from the 80ties.
Unfortunately it was raining.
The players gathered at 7pm and that was about when it started raining and being cold and it didn't stop since then. Our Checkpoint opening hours were 8.30 to 10.30. First player arrived at 10.15!! At this time all of us were soaked with rain to our bones. My fingers had wrinkles. But it was nice to see that the players were not much drier. We played meteorit-cricket with around 50 runners within the next hour and then closed down to get home and resurrected ourselfs by having a hot shower, some dry clothes and some tea. Mars then showed up and me and her went to the after-game-party where I met a couple of our runners again. It was nice to chat with them and hear about their journey-experiences.
Now, dry and warm again I can say, even though the rain and cold really sucked, l had great fun last night out on that bridge, playing cricket in the rain.
Here are some pics and a short video. More pics can be found here.

I can speak for my other two colleagues when I say that you sooo made our night!
Your welcome was so cool, your energy despite the late hour was amazing and motivated us to do our final sprint!
Ah, we were the first three guys who came along (we finally won, by the way) - just that you know who is talking here ;)
We were so happy that after 2 hours in the rain finally someone made it to our checkpoint - thank's for visiting!! And congrats for winning the trophy!
Last night I was dreaming about the game. I was playing jtteotn in vienna with a couple of others, but the cool thing was that we were all flying. We were racing through the streets of Wien, chasing each other through the air. I was jumping from buildings, floating down and darting back up in the air, chasing others and beeing chased on a 3dimensional city-playground. This was one of the most delightful dreams I ever had. Now I want to live in the future, where we can float on airboards like in back to the future!
