Simulated Personal Artifact by babe

INSTRUCTIONS: Create an exact replica of a personal possession.

Well,
I started with this task a while ago and thought that it would be done in an evening. That was not well calculated but actually I enjoyed this long process quite a lot.

I do have a TV. I kind of like my TV, I like to watch movies and sometimes there are some really funny soaps, interesting documentations or news that I want to see, but most of what I actually watch on TV is just a waist of time. I'm not ready for this yet, but one evening I decided to turn my TV off and do something else. Taking a look at my task-list I found this task and thought to myself that making an exact replica of something I already have would be about equally useless as watching TV all night long and so I decided to instead of dumbly watching TV I would dumbly create an exact replica of my TV remote control.

I really enjoy to work with plaster. I have done this a lot and I know quite well how to mold things, so I thought I'd just quickly make these molds, then cast the remote control, paint it and this task will be done.
It was not. The plaster I had was quite old and I was not patient enough and I didn't have the right soap to seperate the molds - however, first night this project totally failed - but at least I enjoyed messing around with plaster.
A few days later I had something to do near the shop where they sell the plaster, so I got some and had another try and this time the molds worked out pretty well:

The molds were good, but what I still didn't have was the soap I needed, so I worked with vaseline instead, what seperates the molds quite well, but it's more difficult to cast detailed structures so the actual cast looked like this:

Lot's of holes and some buttons broke.
So again this was not done quickly.
Next evening I decided to go on with this. I wanted to restore the remote control and so I mixed some plaster and started.

Doing something like this takes lot's of time cause you have to put the plaster on, wait until it's dry, work over it and then again plaster, waiting , sanding, carving, plaster and so on.

I did this a lot and it actually kept me away from TV for far more than one evening and with each time I worked on this sensless thing this task completion got a bit more sense for me.

101120081438web69272.jpg
When this was done I started to paint it like the original one
101120081438web69277.jpg
But I just didn't want to make it exactly the same as the one I have cause that's stupid, also it wouldn't work as a remote control anyway, so I wanted it to have it's own function and so instead of the numbers and signs I wrote on the buttons:

OR YOU BETTER DO SOMETHING ELSE BABE?

And now it's placed on my couch table next to the real remote and when I'm up to watch TV it asks me in a somehow nice way if I wouldn't like to waist my time differently tonight.

Dear Babe,

I like how your new remote encourages you to do exactly the opposite of what the original encourages.

Love,
Inky

Dear Inky

That's a nice way to see it and I hope I will use my new remote as often as my original one or even more.

Yours, babe

Some tasks make me smile, and it's rare that i find one that makes me smile like I did reading that proof.

A+ Super awesome golden lucky good tasking.

Wow. Me too. Exactly like you said it, too. Even with the failing to task and not hating the player, just the game, too.

1 answer for 2 players! +1

Ha! That's funny.

I don't hate you (and you), everyone should task as they have time and pleasure.

(That's actually not the truth: foe cakes must task!!!)

It really looks like a real remote control. I can completely imagine picking it up by mistake.

The concept is very clever, too, but that's already been mentioned.

I like how a simple evening's tasking became more and more involved and ended up having a meaning that applies to everyday life.

I think the concept of "waisting" time is very CE...

That is beyond spectacular! I love how the power button has been changed to a heart, like you could just press it and start the love. :)
