DESCRIPTION:I'm finishing up work on the shopping carts. We've made shields and we have some good foam weapons. it will be fun. anyway, here's the location i said i'd post 5 days ago.\n\n\n\nLOCATION:\n\nThe shopping cart derby will be held in the golden gate park bandshell. It is between the DeYoung museum and the nearly remodeled Academy of sciences.\n\nDIRECTIONS/MAP:\n\nThe 44 bus line goes right by the bandshell. Otherwise take any of the haight street buses (6/66/71/43/etc.) and walk north into the park from 9th Ave.\nThe Bandshell (not to be confused with the panhandle band shell) is located right in front of the DeYoung museum: 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive\n\nMAP!!!!\n\n\n\n\n\nGOOD LOCATION:\n\nThe band shell provides excellent derby space. As well as nearby back-up location in case something should go awry.\n\nlong concrete stretches suitable for jousting:\n\n\ncircular areas good for relay race/battles:\n\n\nLarge concrete areas for free for all battles:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUDPATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\n\nthe shopping cart event is coming up on Sunday July 6. i think we should start at 1PM. i'll post the location on the event page towards the end of sunday 6/29\nthe carts are more or less ready to go. all you have to do is show up. we can figure out teams there. i've been gethering a few supplies to use in shopping cart battles/duels and i'll be gathering more soon\n___________________\n\nthere are a few things that i would like input on\n\ndo you have a team name? i will print out signs for you\n\nmore competition ideas!! so far we've got:\n- joust\n-water balloon duel\n-100 meter dash\n-free for all battle. four carts enter, one cart leaves\nwe'll have shields (somehow), water balloons, hopefully a large variety of foam weapons\n\nGATHER any materials you can use as harmless weapons. FOAM MATERIALS, NERF guns, water guns, etc\n\ncan you help prepare water balloons before the derby?\n\ncan you help transport carts? as it is now, i'm going to have to make two trips to get everything to the as of yet undecided location?\n\nbring decoration if you feel the need to decorate your cart.\n___________________\n\nquestions, thoughts?\n\n\n\nPLEASE JOIN THE FIRST EVER (probably not) SHOPPING CART DERBY!!\n\nSome time ago there was interest in organizing a shopping cart race. (or battle??)\n\nJeremy and I have been collecting stranded and abandoned shopping carts for some time now as well as some materials to spiff them up a bit. We feel that now is the time to start preparing for a shopping cart race. Technically it doesn't have to be a normal race. We can incorporate nerf guns and other foam toys or water guns, etc. etc.\n\nModifying a cart:\nAs you can see if you click the youtube link below, any shopping cart can be modified to provide comfortable seating. I will also provide a good amount of padding for teams to install if they wish to do so.
