Consuming fermented grains as a beverage is very popular in this species. It is widely believed that the susceptibility to the enjoyment of ethanol is a physiological adaptation to when the ancestors of the genus Homo were mainly frugivorous. In their search for enough calories the scent of ethanol coming off of an overly ripe fruit would have been irresistible.
