Dr. Harmon and Levitating Potato's sundial works fine here, if you hold it in just the right place: verticle, and aligned 15 degrees from the center of New Zealand time zone. I added a foam block which makes it stand off from the stair-rails in the correct orientation. (This photo is actually taken at 4:00AM rather than 4:00pm, since that's when I happened to be up.)
