The Callouses on Your Hands by C. J.

INSTRUCTIONS: Think of a physical mark on yourself that has a story behind it. Tell the story.

OR

Think of a physical mark on yourself, and invent a story story behind it. Tell the story.

Please, don't tell us which of these options you select.

I have a 1-inch scar on my right forearm. I got it in 7th grade playing basketball with my friends at the park. Our bicycles were on the ground nearby and some hooligan kid grabbed mine and started pedaling away with it, very nonchalantly. I chased and confronted him. He stopped the bike, pulled a steak knife from his pocket and told me to, "fuck off!" Before saying this, though, I had took hold of the handlebars and was pulling the bike away from him. While telling me to fuck off he also slashed my arm with the knife at the same time.

Needless to say, he stole my bike.

And although the scar looks pretty gnarly, the slash didn't bleed much at the time. I remember putting paper towel on it from the bathroom and having to ask my neighbor who was a cna for help with it because my parents weren't home. She put what she called a butterfly bandage on it that pulled the wound together.

In hindsight, it probably needed stitches. Now I have a bigger than normal piece of scar tissue on my arm. And a fun story.

Scar today.

Scar today.

Probably not?

A picture would have helped.
