Dang it. Not to sound too full of hubris, but I can't think of anything that really scares me.
What am I to do?

Aha! I've got it!
I'll do something that scares you!

Starting on Sunday December 14th until Saturday December 20th, every day I will do something that scares one of you, my fellow esteemed players.

I encourage everybody to send me a private message (I want to keep the mystery alive) with one thing that scares you before the 14th and I will choose my favorite or most exciting seven things from seven different players and do those things for you. I may even do more than seven for more than seven days if I get enough cool suggestions.

What scares you SFØ?

tasking by proxy?

You'll be doing the mirror not quite evil twin of the task then, I think.
C´mon Lincoln, leave something for us fearful ones.

that defeats the point +1

see, one of the powerful things about this task is that it makes you examine what you are afraid of. Maybe for you Lincoln, it's not going onto sf0 for a week, because you'll miss something, or just being boring for a week. Or missing an opportunity. Knowing your fears is the first step to dealing with them.

posted by Professor Møbius on June 16th, 2010 1:07 PM

I think Pixie hit on that one perfectly: for 7 days, every opportunity you get where there is a road less traveled, fail to take it. Honestly, I think boredom is the fear of all SF0-ers, it's what brought us here, and what keeps us playing, so it could be a valid fear to work with.

I'm actually not afraid of boredom or inactivity. I dislike them. I also dislike pickles, but it's not enough to complete Death Kava.

I honestly can't think of anything.
I'm obviously not afraid of not completing a task.

Actually, I have a good question for you, the community: Back on Saturday December 14th, 2008 I started doing every single thing that another player was afraid of. The player sent me like, ten things. I did them all. The next day I did everything another player was afraid of. This continued for five days. On the sixth day, the thing that was scary needed some prep, and I didn't get it done in time, so I did the seventh player's things instead, I skipped. But I didn't do all of them that day, as there were logistical problems. And on the seventh day, I didn't get my shit together in time and broke the "every day for a week" thing. Some of the things I did were difficult, some really easy. So my question to you is this: Should I start all over again, or pick up where I left off two years ago? That question has been bugging me for two years.

Hmm. Tough question. Because I'm always so interested in your praxis, I have the urge to recommend doing it whichever way would let me read about the adventure sooner. But I do think that part of the difficulty of the task is the 'every day for a week' thing.

So I'd say you should pick up where you left off 2 years ago, continue to do different things for 7 days in a row now, but then include the earlier stuff in your write-up. (Also, I don't think it is necessary to do all the things on one player's list, because what if someone's afraid of dying, raising teenagers, being unlucky, or becoming elderly? Some things can be worried about but not feasible to do.)

Yes, actually. I just went back and read through the tattered remnants of my first attempt, and feel like I need to start all over again. What I mean is I need to do it for seven days in a row now. I failed to do it last time, so I'll just redo it all now. But I won't start until I have the tough stuff all lined up and ready to go.

And yes, there are some things that some people put on their lists that would be impossible for me to complete. Those I will skip.

Super. I am really looking forward to seeing a Lincoln-style completion of this task. I'm sure it will be mind-boggling. (No pressure...)

I'm looking forward to it as well, but i still think it's not really what the task intended. I guess you having no fear is proof for this group. It's rather sad you don't fear though. If you don't fear, you don't get the joy from overcoming it

ok, so i consider watching horror movies at night, then going to bed as a scary thing. that count?

if it scares you it counts

I'm afraid of dogs, and I'm generally around one--often some guy's bull terrier or a mix of such--pretty much every time I ride a bus.

I feel like this doesn't count, though, unless I go up to the dog and try to pet it.

But I quite like to keep my hands, thanks.

that doesn't sound fun at all...

maybe you could give it a treat first... or ask the owner permission, or something.

I plan on doing this task, but i need to do a lot of planning

Yeah. I need to talk to your brother about it, but i'm scared of horror movies as well (so it will work for mine).

I would ADORE! seeing you+brothers and sister again!!!
