maybe misuse isn't the right word.
reuse? reappropriation? recuperation?
i dunno. i liked the alliteration.
I once used the London Underground map to navigate London aboveground. It was certainly possible, but involved walking well out of my way in several occasions since the map is abstracted to make the lines and stations readable.
