I'd love to do this one, but with me being fifteen, I don't think that my mum would be too keen. Night-back-garden Photography =P?
That's one of the good things about having a tasking dad, you don't have to deal with stuff like that.
I just voted for another of these Praxii, but I wanted to point something out and also put my vote behind a suggestion. The directions for this task state very clearly, "Explore your neighborhood," which would disqualify the completion I just voted for, and would disqualify others (including the current leader), because the tasks are being performed in a neighborhood the tasker is only visiting.
I think the original intention of the task was for the taskers to find things of interest that the tasker might never notice in the daylight in their own neighborhoods. I think it was originally intended to be about finding the extraordinary at night in what the tasker normally only saw as ordinary in the daylight.
That said, I think the praxis has really only been helped by the fact that folks have chosen to do the task in the extraordinary surroundings in which they find themselves, and I would like to make the following proposal: Please replace the words "your neighborhood" with the words "a neighborhood" and continue the praxis as it has been running. If you choose the neighborhood to be your own, that's awesome. If you choose a different neighborhood, that's awesome, too.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
I performed it once (originally) in my neighborhood just as you explain it. Then I went out and did it again in a different neighborhood, and I will continue to explore different neighborhoods and add them to my praxis. But the original is still there. MY neighborhood. Which I think qualifies. Because I did both things.
So I think the wording is fine. I have no problem with the bending or sometimes breaking of rules.
yeah, something about the great artist making their own moral universe? or something. in this case I'm pretty forgiving though I like JTony's note about seeing the features you might otherwise miss in a place you already feel is familiar.
I did it in my neighborhood, and it was awesome, however- I do see that the concept of 'your neighborhood' could be viewed in a 'be-in-the-place-where-you-are' sort of way. I've lived most of my life in all kinds of places where I didn't lay claim to a single square inch of real estate.
That said, I think the nitpicking of specifics of tasks like this one gets a bit out of hand sometimes. But then, I do it too.
I did mine during a period of transition between two neighborhoods. Neither before nor after was that one mine, but it's where I was sleeping when I completed the task.
Also: in a praxis on this recently I mentioned the possibility that this should be a good introductory task, possibly even at level zero a la Seeing Beyond Sight. What do others think?

Perhaps we did not complete this task to its specifications; we explored a neighborhood not our own. At the dawn of the 20th century, St. Louis was the fourth largest and first wealthiest city in the United States. But much has changed since then...
When I imagine what qualifies as "deepest, darkest night" I think of empty streets and a weighty absence of life. My neighborhood is active much of the night. I have walked or stumbled through it at most hours and it is never entirely qui...
This task contains some adult themes. Nothing too shocking, but if you're under 18 go away. I love to wander and explore, so this task really spoke to me. I decided to walk around and find the darker, more notorious sides of the neighborhoods w...
In order to explore properly, I had to determine when deepest, darkest night was. I checked the sunset/sunrise times for my physical location - sunset was at 7:44pm, sunrise at 7:31am. Directly between those two points was 1:37:30am, the point at w...
suppose there's not much to say about this completion. i had to stay very late at work tonight (past 9pm, what is my life coming to?) and as i was walking to bart through soma, i was stunned by how different the neighborhood looked at 9:30pm than it...
This task is one of the two that really spoke to me when I joined. So, I wasn't going to skip out on a half-assed completion. "o hai look its dark lol". Then again, I can't remember any one doing a bad job on this task... Anyway. I had ...
Now, I am a man of sensibility. I can be reasonable, I can be understandable, but why oh why was it snowing? Last night? In England? AFTER EASTER? I was out in Stoke with the Fencing chaps (Sports Presentation evening, prizes galore), and come half ...
FZ!: Most people think DC is a city like any other, but the DC that tourists see during the day is a facade, rolled out by municipal employees at 5:30am and packed away at 8pm sharp. My nighttime photography documents the shocking truth of this city...
When is the deepest and darkest? Where is your neighborhood? For the last several months, our family has had some fairly unpleasant experiences. As you would know from this task, BlueTulip's brother has been in jail for some time. During this time ...
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY0DbF458rA] Night Photography is a task that has always intrigued me and is one of the reasons I decided to join SF0. However, it being a level 2 task, I have been ineligible to complete or sign up for it. ...

This'll give me a chance to experiment with the bulb setting on my Holga, or take more color-flash shots.
