Terms / era |
Every so often, the game is reset, to make room for new tasks and new players (or old players who have nowhere to go but up to the top of the Tower). And to make it important to do those little, special level 1 tasks again.
At the start of a new era, everyone's score is reset, and all active tasks are retired. New (or not-recently-active) tasks are added to the list.
Era changes bring significant changes to the game's mechanics, updates to the super-custom SFZero software, and adjustments to way the game's meaning is articulated. Previous changes include player-submitted tasks, teams, new forms of group membership, and various changes to the voting mechanism.
There have been five eras so far: Impossible Exchange, Glasnost, Interregnum, Insatiability, and the current era, Everyday Life.
ERA refers to the following tasks:
- The Future Of Days That Have Passed
- New Era's Eve Party
- New Year's Resolution
- The Maturity Of A Sentient Species
- Shplanked

I hope they hurry it up, the start of a new era is one of my favourite SF0 times.
According to the task tracker, Everyday Life is indeed over (the task I just did doesn't show up in my "Completed Tasks" because it falls outside the Everyday Life time range), but no era has taken its place. The Mayans were right!
The new era: Limbo. Where everyone just kind of stands around going "So, uh, are we...?"
Maybe Everyday Life will continue every day for the rest of our lives.
I'm working on three tasks right now and within spitting distance of level 8, so I'm fine with this era going a little longer. :D
Possibly related to the limbo era: what happened to the donate button?
Maybe we should make our own new era?
Just, all of us do pretired tasks that we like, independently keep track of our scores on our profile pages, and post praxis as we'd do for any pre/retrocompletion.
We will call it... Autarchy!
I like the idea, but you need a functioning site to attract new people.
Some ideas:
1) New era, new website?
2) Get a skilled hacker, so we can take over maintenance of the site.
Maybe put the responsibility of selecting new tasks in the hands of the players? Every day, pick a player at random from the list of players active in, say, the last month- they get to select and approve a task, with the condition that it can't be one they've submitted.
I don't understand. I just posted this and when I click praxis this era, there it is. ???
Still don't get it. created this
Sam Archer. What is this task tracker you speak of?
It got fixed! Previously, my "Reverse Shoplifting" praxis didn't show up in my "Completed Tasks". Now it does. Everyday Life has officially been extended:
You're viewing completed tasks from the Everyday Life Era (9/21/08 to 12/31/13).
yay...
another year of Everyday Life...
...yay
Aaargh, I'd been holding off waiting for the new era. Now I'm behind in my tasking!
Time to blow the lid off this shit.
Also, there were five eras: don't forget interregnum, the mini, tweener era!
see this sounds awesome, it sounds like it helps keep the game even!!!
