Contents of a Character's Wallet by Saint

March 31st, 2007 12:26 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: In Jack Finney's short story, "Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket", the character - clinging to the side of a building - imagines what the world will think of him if they only have the contents of his pockets to consider.

Empty your pockets, your wallet, your purse out onto a table- tally the contents and tell us what the world would think of you, if they had only those effects to consider. Then, decide upon one thing to add to the contents of your pockets, your wallet, or your purse, which will better enunciate the truth of your person to the world.

-Dark leather wallet, a little worn
-(in wallet)
-some receipts
- my lucky quarter (honestly, not very lucky)
- $16.00
-my library card
-my starbucks card
-my debit card (name, and everything else is covered, so don't even try)
-my driver's permit ( I know, it's sad)
-school I.D.
-and a jack-in-the-box gift card ( I don't know how much is even on it now)
Then theres my cellphone, my keys, and my iPod (the brick!)

Well, I felt like doing as many tasks as I could before the first, so I did this one. If someone were to find me dead and go through my pockets, they would probably think that I'm a middle-class person in society, that likes to talk to people, and travel. I like good quality leather, but I don't replace my wallet until it falls apart (the wallet I currently have is nice, but it went through the wash). They would be able to tell that I drive a Volvo, an older version too. They may even be able to tell that at one point in time I went to Japan, and could possibly speak Japanese ( I can). The only item that I can think of adding would be a chocolate bar(not pictured, but that's what I would add), because chocolate makes most people happy, and lots of people like it. That would pretty much sum up my personality, if it were based off of what someone would find in my pockets on the average day.
