Public Piano by Aaron H, SNORLAX

July 29th, 2006 4:47 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Find a piano in a public space such as a shopping center, hotel lobby, restaurant or office building. Piano and instrument stores do not count.

When people are present and nobody is currently playing, start performing as if you are supposed to be there. If you don't know how to play the piano, try holding down the sustain pedal (right pedal) and slowly strike a random key every couple seconds. Avoid annoying people with "Chopsticks" and "Heart and Soul." Change the ambience of your surroundings with your ivory tickling.

Optional: Go out of your way to dress the part.
Optional: Have a tip jar and collect tips.

Document with video or photos and audio. Showing the reactions of other people a plus.

WATCH THE VIDEO

Only for SF0 will I wear a suit. Normally I would never do that. Same goes for sunglasses. I have worn sunglasses 3 times in public now (lifetime), twice for SF0. My friend said I looked like a bizarre version of ray charles or the bues brothers, he wasn't quite sure which. Maybe one day I'll do a do-over with a tutu and a bright pink tank top that is a couple sizes small.

Wow. Thanks for tasking this task on. It's the first time anyone's completed one of my tasks and the feeling I had watching this (along with my laughter) made my day. If I had votes available I'd throw one on this. The use of your own piano "integrated" with the locked grand was fantastic. Thanks too for getting some reactions in there.

Hilarious

I especially like that you brought a back up piano, just in case.

what are we to do with this madman?

Way to hit up multiple pianos! Plus, now we know Nordstrom's has lax security compared to fancy hotels.

Thank you

Thank you.

None of the employees at Nordstrom seemed to really care. My spy at Nordstroms said the manager went to check the piano when I was getting mine. It proly looked like I was playing with the lock when I checked it out.
The hotel employees on the other hand were on to me right when I walked in. Even at the hotels I didn't play at. The fact that I was wearing sunglasses long after dark proly didn't help.

Long live the prank monkey!!
