I've been telling friends that the transit system out here is made for people, over the age of 65. Buses run once every hour or two from 9 - 7, almost never on the weekends. Any trips out to The City require major pre-planning and a total reconfiguration of the morning/afternoon leading up to when that stupid bus will be at that stupid corner.
Getting back home from Bart most of the time ends up becoming a long walk where I worry about such things as:
- Is there enough battery life left in this iPod to last me all the way home (died twice)?
- Does any of this money being saved by not taking a cab going to be worth it tomorrow when I want to sleep while at work (must keep my eyes open for work, literally)?
- Will a car being driven by an idiot on a cell phone hit me (3 close calls, nicked once (guess waiting for the cross walk sign on a dark and stormy night isn't enough anymore))?
Thank you, the lazy occupants of CoCo County. It is because of you, or the lack there of, that the local bus system has no patrons to fund expansion and coverage. If more people rode the bus every day, The Crisis would have less to feed on. If more people took the bus from here to there daily, there would be less stress due to parking, gas prices, and repair bills.
By now you'd assume my disadvantage is how it must just suck dealing with travel around the East Bay without a car. I'm sorry to say that is not it. What my disadvantage is myself, breaking down and saving up for a car, a vehicle that'll most likely get me stuck into a financial loop.
Will that insurance fee really be worth that extra hour of sleep, worth the hours I'll be working to generate a paycheck for?
