INSTRUCTIONS: Document A Deconstruction

Photos were taken at NIMBY on Saturday night. THERM was building this thing they called The Mansion. It was a bunch of old 70s wooden furniture stuck together and hollowed out. At the bottom of the thing was an air compressor pumping it full of crazy flammable gases. Two wheel chair motors were taken apart and stuck on the sides to give the thing flaming spinning arms. An old tiny TV+VCR was taken apart and stuffed in the wooden box most people called the head, it was playing The Yellow Submarine. At one point, before getting it started for the first time they opted to rewind the tape so it started out from the beginning.

The first run, they lit the spinning arms, it looked fucking cool already. For a pilot they brought out this little motorized tank called Darwin. This little guy shoots nifty fire from its tail. By the time they got Darwin out, there was so much gas build up that the whole thing blew up and fell backwards. Even though it was late they sided with rebuilding The Mansion because they wanted results.

I wish I had pictures during the second/final run, but alas I was helping them record it with their video camera (hope to ask for a copy the next time I see them). The fucker shot fire out of every single crack. The wood quickly went from a containing skin, to a skeleton, to nothing more then a memory. The back got eaten up before the front, it was simply amazing to watch this thing disappear within its self.

Pretty soon it toppled over into its base, they rolled Darwin in to ram what bits were left.

That was a magical night of flame. Temporary art is so beyond anything else, especially if it has to do with fire.

Agreed: I think a game of Hide and Seek is in order. I will bring my large, yet currently low-scoring Presidio Contingent.
