I Declare A Thumb War!
(This is what we'd always say when I was a kid and would thumbwrestle with my father. We'd chant the above while we grasped hands and moved our thumbs up and down from side to side. Upon the last word we would begin thumbwrestling, and often it ended with an index finger cheat when one of us got impatient. Always amusing though.)

The phrase "Thumb War" brings back such strong memories of childhood, I suppose I am declaring a Thumb War against my father, as that's always who I think of when I think back to thumb-wrestling as a kid.
Next time I see him I'll see if he's up for a rematch.
Who'd your declare war on?
What happened?
Who won?
Granted, declaring a war in the abstract may be less silly than declaring a war on an abstract concept, but it's not nearly as much fun to read about as declaring war on an actual person.
