Art Creation Project by Bob Jones

INSTRUCTIONS: Declare something as art. Contextualize it and critique it.

This is art. It was construted on a stony beach on the Amalfi Coast in Italy by three students who wished to create a small monument to their visit. It is a symbol of the fact that the accomplishments of youth, while today are smaller than the accomplishments of our ancestors (the pyramids, the pantheon, pompii), they are no less meaningful (the shoes in the picture give scale). Note the circle of stones that show the cyclic nature of the world that we live in, that momuments are a true sign of the constant rise and fall of civillisations. In the middle of the circle the monument itself is a cone, pointing up to the sky, rising out of the ground, showing that all things rise from the earth, that all things are part of the earth. The flag gracing the monument's peak is a testiment to the pride of those that constucted it. Pride that all humans have in their accomplishments.
This, is art.
