Lucid Dreaming by K!

July 30th, 2007 10:32 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Have a lucid dream. If you're already an experienced lucid dreamer, complete another task while in your dream. Describe the experience. What method did you use to achieve lucidity?

I was honestly never expecting to complete this task, because I seldom remember my dreams, let alone achieve lucidity. However, my sleep schedule has been slightly amiss lately, and I think that helped me out. I had a Dream Initiated Lucid Dream (DILD), which I think is an amusing enough acronym to include in this proof.
Here is what I wrote down in my journal seconds after I woke up:
I dreamed I was in the Harry Potter world and I was in the Order of the Phoenix. I was a lame little boy though [I'm a physically healthy girl in real life], rather like Tiny Tim. I and a few others went into hiding at Sirus Black's old house back in September. In December they found us. I was in the backyard that was surrounded by a dark tall wooden fence. The grass was a sickly green, and there was an old rusty swingset with three swings. The fence was supposed to give magical protection. I was following the others inside when Umbridge apparated out of nowhere. She forced me to drink a purple potion. "Now you've been bugged," she gloated. "We will hear everything you do. I'm telling you becauseyou are not permitted to tell anyone else what transpired here." She disappeared.
At this point I was nearly awake so I had more control over the dream than I would usually have. So I went to the sliding glass door my grandmother had just opened for me, and I whispered to her, "Nana, I've been bugged." She whispered back, "Okay. We'll take necessary precautions. Don't tell anyone else." I went back inside the house, hoping I would escape the Death Eaters' punishment, but it was too late. Umbridge's voice echoed inside my head: "I thought I told you not to tell anyone? Now you must experience a most horrible painful death. You are poisoned." With that I began vomiting all over the floor. That was the end of the dream. I woke up.

I applaud you for your detailed description of the dream. I've been a technicolor dreamer ever since I could remember; I have vivid recollections of dreams as far back as the age of 12 years old. I also experience both dream and wake initiated lucid dreams to the extent that I hallucinate when I wake up. My question for you is: at what point in the dream did you realize that you were dreaming? In what way did you exert control over your actions and what steps did you take to achieve it? Did you find that you couldn't control what was going on, thus feeling frustrated? I'd be really interested in hearing your experience in futher detail.

Harry Potter? Psh.

I was expecting you to dream of mysterious wooden eyeballs and spinning domes with books inside. =P

I realized I was dreaming approximately when Umbridge disapparated, because I thought, "Wait... I don't live in the HP universe!" And from there I decided that had nothing to lose from opposing the Death Eaters/ Ministry. So I made the choice to tell. However, I did not have complete control over the dream because I would not choose to die, obviously. I seemed to control my own actions but not those of others.

Yeah, I've never been able to control the actions of others either. You control your own destiny, right? I have to say, lucid dreams tend to be the most terrifying and traumatic of my dreams. Check out my rendering of the task.
