Character Business Cards by The Revelator

March 10th, 2007 5:12 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make business cards for your character. If you like, you may hand them out when doing tasks for the game. You may want to make a calling (or "visiting") card instead:
The essential convention was that one person would not expect to see another person in their own home ... without first leaving their visiting card with the person at their home. Upon leaving the card, they would not expect to be admitted at first, but might receive a card at their own home in response. This would serve as a signal that a personal visit and meeting at home would not be unwelcome. On the other hand, if no card was forthcoming in return, or if a card was sent in an envelope, a personal visit was thereby discouraged.

I had a billion little cards left over from stationary I got for graduation notices...from high school. I'm in grad school now, and I don't think I'll be needing them again. They were plain white cards that said my full name, all in perfect cursive. So I crossed out the cursive, wrote "Who's That Shouting?" across the top, and SF0.org across the bottom. The back features ChelsTheRevelator@sf0.org, and a random phrase. I was watching The Two Towers while I wrote these out, so many are Lord of the Rings quotes. Some are U2 references, some are Depeche Mode references, and some are written in ancient Greek. They were spread around Stater Brothers in Buena Park, and Pollack Library at Cal State Fullerton.

My only hope is that they are legible to whoever reads them.

While placing these cards around, I found the coolest thing. A book had a hand-written dedication inside of it, from 1953. To Helen, love Bernard.

Wow, awesome find with that letter. That makes the whole task worth it if it wasn't already.
