Contents of a Character's Wallet by Daniel

February 5th, 2007 1:12 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: In Jack Finney's short story, "Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket", the character - clinging to the side of a building - imagines what the world will think of him if they only have the contents of his pockets to consider.

Empty your pockets, your wallet, your purse out onto a table- tally the contents and tell us what the world would think of you, if they had only those effects to consider. Then, decide upon one thing to add to the contents of your pockets, your wallet, or your purse, which will better enunciate the truth of your person to the world.

Okay, here goes.
My pockets contain:
1 Moblie Phone
Various Paper Hankies in varying states of use
Set of keys, including:
House Key
Bike lock key
broken locker key
padlock key
Plastic keyring in the shape of the symbol representing the suit of cards 'spades'
World War 1 Allied machine gun bullet on a keychain
No less than 7 different rings
A Karibener
A bottle opener
A 'swiss key' multitool
A wallet, containing:
A pen
A small sewing kit
A pad of post-it notes, covered in cryptic scrawl
Some money, mostly in small change
Various cards which are rarely used
Occasionally my Dungeons and Dragons character sheet
A little bag for storing things
Numerous elasto-plasts

Obviously, were someone to look in my pockets, they would easily be able to identify me, and possibly work out every detail of my life thanks to the contents of the post-its. Okay, in order to truly represent myself to the world, I will write my myspace account on a post-it... :P
