Fun With Food by GYØ Daryl, Tøm

February 9th, 2008 5:34 PM / Location: 52.607667,1.7299389

INSTRUCTIONS: Play with your food.

Saturday 10th February, Market Gates Multi-storey carpark. The first non-annual GYZero Pie throwing contest is on!

Preparation
First we went to Partners, to buy some target chalk. We needed some chalk anyway (keep an eye on the praxis) so this was a good excuse to buy some. White or coloured? Coloured of course! Then it was off to marks and spencers, to try and find some soft food item that would splatter when it hit the ground, but not injure anyone should it fall on them. Mini apple pies should do the trick.

Contest
So, we chalked a target on the ground. Three rings, bullseye is 10 points, middle ring is 5 and the outer ring is worth 3. Daryl was up first.

Event Summary:

Daryl's turn
Attempt one-
A miss. Quite close to the target, but a miss nonetheless.

Attempt two-
Further out than the first one. Miss.

Attempt three-
Close again, but still no cigar.

A resounding nil points from Daryl sends him soaring into the lead.

Tom's Turn
Attempt one-
Further out than all of Daryl's put together. Fail.

Attempt two-
Closer, but still a miss.

Attempt three-
A HIT! JOY! FINALLY! An outer ring hit scores Tom three points, and the win.

Conclusions
Apple pies are good throwing objects, they splatter well, they don't bounce and they wouldn't injure anyone unlucky enough to get hit.

Targets are hard to see in the dark from the top of multi-storey carpark.

It is impossible to remove a pie from it's tin foil casing whilst holding a camera in the other hand.

The wind really does make a difference to the flight trajectory of an apple pie.

Tom should represent Great Yarmouth at the 2012 pie throwing contest. If Daryl was the only other competitor.

When throwing pies, Daryl loses the game.

GY is dark, man! The video is quasi-audio proof :(
How about glowsticks in the target! Or anywhere, really, you guys are creative. Send me my clock (and my test) and I´ll send you glowsticks...

Yeah. GY: Darker than Cardiff. (Sorry, too much Torchwood lately.)

Great work, gentlemen! I hope to come visit and take part in the 2012 pie throwing competition. I'm utter crap at throwing but I'd love to try anyway.

Nothing like a pie-throwing contest to liven up a dull day!
I wouldn't mind competing in 2012 either...

Hmm... 2012 Pie throwing.

I see an event coming on here.

And yes, GY is Dark at this time of year, at 5pm. And Susy, I'll get Ben to send the clock off with his tests ;)
