Journey To The End Of The Night by Tim Erbil

June 19th, 2006 10:30 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: A pursuit across San Francisco in 5 parts, concluding with a bonfire at the beach.

The city spreads out before you. Rushing from point to point, lit by the slow strobe of fluorescent buses and dark streets. Stumbling into situations for a stranger's signature. Fleeing unknown pursuers, breathing hard, admiring the landscape and the multitude of worlds hidden in it. Burning everything at a bonfire on the beach.

For one night, drop your relations, your work and leisure activities, and all your usual motives for movement and action, and let yourself be drawn by the attractions of the chase and the encounters you find there.

No bikes, no cars, just feet and public transportation.

Document your experience.

I got to the meetup at around 7:15 pm and signed up to a random group since I didn’t really know anybody there except for Nichole and Reed. So I met up with Alan, Gabe and Tom, “all really cool people” and we decide to run through the Embarcadero mall. As soon as we emerged from the mall, a chaser chased us and I was disconnected from my group. About four chasers later in a span of five blocks, I was caught before reaching the first checkpoint.

Made my way down Market after that and caught a few people near the second checkpoint. I teamed up with them and called my roommate up and asked her if she wanted to assist us in chasing down some people on the blue team. I made getting as many bule people as possible into my number one priority for the night.

I'm not done with this, I'll continue writing about it later.
