Character Business Cards by Erik Ogan

August 13th, 2006 2:24 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make business cards for your character. If you like, you may hand them out when doing tasks for the game. You may want to make a calling (or "visiting") card instead:
The essential convention was that one person would not expect to see another person in their own home ... without first leaving their visiting card with the person at their home. Upon leaving the card, they would not expect to be admitted at first, but might receive a card at their own home in response. This would serve as a signal that a personal visit and meeting at home would not be unwelcome. On the other hand, if no card was forthcoming in return, or if a card was sent in an envelope, a personal visit was thereby discouraged.

I went full-bore OCD on this task.

I had the flash of design inspiration months ago, but midway through completion I had another flash of inspiration that made me want to make a scalable (vector) version of the BARTpa logo so that other players could use it (both to create their own cards, and for other projects.)

My inner typography nerd reared it's ugly head and I got hung up on this portion to the point where I gave up in frustration.

But I've wanted player cards for a number of tasks lately, so I sat down an tried again. I worked around the typography issues by tracing the "B A R T" letters in the logo into a set of Bezier curves. Haha! *twitch*

After getting energized by a (IMNSHO) kick-ass BARTpa logo, I bit off more than I could chew in trying to make a scalable SF0 logo. I'm less pleased with that, but I think it conveys the essence.

I've been working on this again for a few days now, and (other than the SF0 logo) I'm really pleased with the results.

Now I need to make sure I get them printed well enough that it does the design justice.

I'll include everything in SVG & EPS formats so that others can benefit from my labor!

EDIT: Hrm, the file uploader won't let me upload SVG or EPS. The files will be here momentarily.

"I need to make a player card . . . I need to make a BARTpa player card. EUREKA! I have a GREAT IDEA!

Don't look too harshly on the SF0 logo. That shit was hard.

Thanks!

Yeah, I went a little nuts with this, but it kept producing idea after idea, so I just went with it.

Ever thought of printing right onto a bart ticket?

No, that hadn't occurred to me. Mostly because I like the subtle difference between my card and a real BART card. Subliminals, if you will.

You are such a geek. Have some bonus points for spending so damn much time on this task and sharing your work with others. The SVG work rocks.
