Perform A _____ Deed by Erik Ogan
July 8th, 2006 2:54 PM
When I first saw this task, I assumed that I would document a good deed that I had yet to do. The Universe, it would seem, had other plans.
Sometimes opportunities that present themselves are too good to pass up.
Returning to our conveyance after our Journey to the Whale, we came upon a pair of (presumably) students stumbling out of their truck next to our vehicle, (just managing to continue) carrying fo'ties. There was a crash, and one turned to the other and said, "You are so lame. I can't believe you dropped that." There was a slurred response that I can't remember now, because I was too mortified as they walked on, completely oblivious to any consequences of their actions.
I recovered moments later, but they were gone. Looking at FoxyChachi I said, "Well, why don't we sweep that [broken glass behind our car] under their truck."
When we were nearly done with that she said, "I think you just did your bad deed." Thinking for a moment I said, "That? No." I was just the pro-active hand of karma. "But almost..." and proceeded to take the largest piece of glass and prop it up between their tire and the ground. "NOW I've done my bad deed."
I didn't make sure to line it up between the treads, and I only did it to one tire (since the task says "Or, perform a bad deed." not "Or, perform a maliciously evil deed."), so it's likely that the glass was simply crushed, rather than slicing open their tire. But there's enough of a chance that I'm willing to let the Karma Tornado decide their fate.
And who knows? they clearly had no business driving in their state, maybe I did a good deed and prevented them from hitting some kid on a bike a few hours later. Changing a tire could have only helped them sober up.
