Remove A Task: The Task by Gadget
July 8th, 2006 1:34 AMI submitted the "Do Over (The Right Way)" task just moments before Pirate Monkey submitted her very similar "Do Over" task. While I beat her to the punch, her task has caught on a bit more. As of this writing, her "Do Over" task has 5 submissions, 2 of which have received votes. That's not too bad. It also has the task number of 420 going for it. On the other hand, the "Do Over" task is worth 25 points and three of the do-overs, are remakes of lesser point tasks while the remaining two do-overs are worth the same points. One certainly shouldn't get more points for a remake of a lesser point task. The "Do Over (The Right Way)" task has zero submissions (and zero votes). That's unfortunate, but it's probably because there's a little bit more work involved. In addition to just redoing a task, it requires self-critique, reflection, and a public statement. Moreover, it requires that you redo an equal or higher point task which, ultimately, makes for a more interesting submissions for all of us.
My initial intent here was to be polite and offer up my "Do Over (The Right Way)" task as a sacrifice. However, after evaluating the tasks and submissions (in accordance with this "Remove A Task" task), I think it makes more sense to remove the "Do Over" task (id=420).

My appologies about the gender bending. Now I'm going to have to do-over the redo of the make a task. Ugh. ;-)
Yeah... a combo of the two would work for me as well.
As for the use of the word lame, it's up to interpretation. It's was meant to mean "unsatisfactory". Originally there was another associated, "Don't flame cause it's lame" task that required constructive critisicm of another task, but that was shot down. "Lame" is intentionally ambiguous and not necessarily demeaning, so it seemed like a good word to use at the time.
Personally, I feel that some of the first tasks that I submitted were lame. Not necessarily poorly done, but performed prior to joining the game. I've been called on some of those and I think that's great. It encourages me to do better and I've gone back and re-submitted some of those (for no points). A few of those tasks, however, have been voted for and it doesn't seem right to resubmit something that someone has voted for (i.e. changing things right under their vote). Given that, I think it's perfectly fine to re-do a task that has been voted for.
Either way... it's just nitpicking at this point. I think we both have the same intent and came up with them at roughly the same time. Let's combine them and make one good one.

?! "his"?
did i miss some "change piratey's gender" task?
in other news, i propose a combo of the two tasks, incorporating elements of both. in fact i had suggested to the Zero Tripartate that they do just that, but never heard back.. (maybe they were away from internet then?) i had hoped they would assign my do-over task a very low point value. like '5' or something. because i agree that the redo shouldn't be worth more than the task. i like your analysis elements, requiring comments and feedback as part of the do-over process. but i don't necessarily like the repeated inclusion of "lame" as a descriptor. while this may be true of the tasks we are trying to encourge people to redo, sometimes, its just 'cause they are new, or confused about the nature of the task. while i intially liked the point minimum element of yours, i think some of the very low scoring tasks need the most desperate redoing... I would like to see the no-redoing-a-task-that-has-been-voted-for rule, because it seems unfair to allow folks to get voted on twice, if they change the essential completion of a task, in a way that is very different from the first, a person who originally voted for them may wish they could take it back.
just my two cents. and i still think it was incredibly funny/remarkable that we created essentially the same task at almost the same moment.
