February 12th, 2009 6:36 PMWhen I read the story to the second graders I was not sure whether or not they did not get the jokes or were just too intimated to laugh. When I asked them if they thought something was funny they nodded but nothing else. Oh well, hopefully you people well like it more. Enjoy. (If you do not get the joke at the end say it aloud.)
Sorry some of the pictures did not come out right.

“King Dum,” said the duke. “I am a powerful duck…” “That’s duke,” said king Dum. “Right,” said the duke. “ Anyway I have to ask to marry your daughter.”
Page 4

King Dum thought about it and said, “Okay duck…” “That’s duke,” said the duke. “Whatever. But as I was saying, first you must perform three difficult and pointless tasks.” “But why?” asked the duke. “Because this is a fairy tale and what kind of fairy tale would it be without difficult and pointless tasks?”
Page 5

“You have a point,” said the duke. “What’s the first task?” “First duck…” “Duke!” said the duke “Yes, first you must catch a big blue frog.”
Page 6

So he went out to the forest to catch a frog. When he caught his first frog he said “Ha I got one!” The frog said, “Hi I am an enchanted prince.” The duke got mad and yelled “this is my fairy tale, get your own.” “Sorry,” the frog said, and he hopped off.
Page 7

He searched for many hours but all the frogs were green not blue. Finally after the caught another green one he shook it and yelled, “Why are you all green?” The frog was so scared that he gasped and forgot to breath. This turned him blue because as you all know when you hold your breath you turn blue.
Page 8

He took the frog back and said, “I the duck…” “Duke,” said king Dum. “Right, I got the blue frog.” “Good. Now for your second task you must carry water in a sieve.” For those of you who don’t know a sieve is, it is a container with holes in the bottom so water can go through without anything else going through. The duke took the sieve saying, “I will be back with the water soon.”
Page 9

The duke took the sieve to the stream and tried to hold water in it but because of the holes the water fell out. He tried again, but like last time the water fell out.
Page 10

After many more tries he said something that should not be put in a fairy tale and the holes started disappearing. This happened because when he cursed at it the sieve became cursed and as you all now if something is cursed it can’t possible be holey.
Page 11

He brought back the sieve and said, “I have carried water in your sieve. “Good job duck…” “That’s duke.” Yes, anyway your final task is to find your way out of the forest.
Page 12

The guards put him in the forest and told him they would leave and he would have to find his way out.
Page 13

The duke pulled out his newly bought Taits compass and tried to use it to find his way out. What he did not know about the Taits compass was that it did not point north so by using it he got hopelessly lost and was never seen again. This only goes to show he who has a Taits is lost.

Not that I know, but if there is I suggest you stay away from it!
points for "if it's cursed it can't possibly be holey"...awesome.
is... is Taits a common brand of compass?
