Paradise Found by Hilarious Bee

July 16th, 2008 11:42 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Surrealist poet Louis Aragon said "All paradises are artificial." Select an artificial paradise you find interesting and document its existence.

For me, the transplanted Pennsylvanian in the unknowably large city of Toronto, the office my student newspaper has become a certain paradise. It's rather homey, I probably spend as much time there as I do in my dorm after all. Editors bond as we stay up until 4:30 am copy-editing and printing and thinking up witty headlines, and it's a very well-used and beloved space. But it's also very old and rather run-down as many under-appreciated units at a ginormous public universities.

The clutter is ridiculous, in the news office especially where I focused my documentation. There are layers of books, back-issues and various odds and ends left by editors past. Occasionally one comes across items so odd, so out-of-place, it's a mystery how they would even and up in a student news office. The place also reminds me of my high school in a very good way. In short, I love it :)

I should also say that there is talk at the Varsity of actually cleaning the place up. If it actually goes through, I will miss the clutter, but I have a feeling that it will return somehow.

Damn, that DOES resemble Delta. Incredibly much so. Looking at the murals gave me vertigo.

Yeah, I think that's the simple explanation for why I feel so at home there. Thanks for the vote :)

Many have napped on it, none should have.

Hee!

I am inordinately affected by the place where you're getting a lot of work done being considered a paradise.
