This, unfortunately, is going to be my last task in The Biggity O, my temporary home for the last few months. But I'm moving back to SF now so I'm happy about that and can't wait to do some tasks there again.
I was walking to Fruitvale Ave. the other day, taking photos for a class, and discovered two seemingly abandoned storefronts, less than a block from one another. One is full of glass figurines, costume jewelry, and other trinkets; the other seems to have been some sort of toy store, its windows lined with creepy stuffed animals. Everything in the windows is covered in a thick layer of dust.
I declare these storefronts art!
Because this task really collapses the ideas of art creation and curation, I decided, upon the above declaration, to go ahead and museumify the stores. After all, the task description does ask that one "contextualize" and "critique" the artwork. I wrote a high-falutin' placard referencing Claus Oldenburg's The Store and Freud's essay on the uncanny. For further context I also printed out some information on Oldenburg's work and Freud's entire essay. I put on my best art-curator outfit and posted all of this stuff on the storefronts, plus two photographs (each) I took of the windows' contents. I only really love one of the photos but the others are nice too, I think.

Best. Comment. Ever.
I wish I could vote for it, somehow.

this is a wonderful completion. Thanks, Jackie. (Oakland looks a lot like Albuquerque, it seems.)
Go Art!
One great thing is that the first store has no name, except for the number 1652, a conspicuouisly unimportant year, though numerologists would disagree. True, AFEB is certainly a very dangerous body, and an abandoned toy store would only be fitting as a cover.
