Ian and I have been wanting to do this task ever since we realized his Japanese Bear Icemaker makes amazingly fluffy snow, if one applies enough physical labor and perseverance. We just didn't know where to decorate. We decided that, since we wouldn't be able to make a huge amount of snow given SF's temperate climate, a small public space was necessary, and we chose a little statue of the Virgin Mary attached to the San Francisco Mission.

We ground up about 10 pounds of ice, and it still wasn't enough to cover the statue as much as we wanted, so we had to pick and choose our spots. It took us about an hour and a half to grind up all the snow, and it was pretty tiring since the icemaker is really just meant to make one little kid's treat at a time, not provide mother-nature-y quantities of snow. But we made it happen. The snow melted along the way, but we freshened it up here and there, and walked away from a pretty eye-catching (for our climate) line of snow leading to the Mary statue. We got lots of looks while we ground and packed the snow, and some people talked to us. As we walked away, we saw a group of people confusedly investigating it. Please enjoy!
