Glove Slap by Lizard Boy, Nanthgh

May 16th, 2007 10:44 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Challenge another player to a duel.

[please note, per the task's creator: there must be a duel - document, no less]

A while ago I decided I should challenge Nanthgh to a duel, but not just any duel. I finally (it took about 20 much interrupted minutes) decided on a duel of stealth. So I sent her this e-mail:

"I challenge you to a duel of stealth. The first person to tap the
other on the back of the head before the other is aware they're in the
general viscinity wins. If you accept, I will consider the duel to be
started 24 hours after you let me know (be it in person or by e-mail)."

A few days later (after a particularly busy week) she accepted. I knew my best bet was to sneak in to her room in the morning. I'm a much earlier riser than she is, and her desk (the place most likely to find her) faces the door, so that would be no good. My plan was to go in the second story windows of an adjoining room. Unfortunately, the one unlocked window was way too stuck for me to open it while clinging to the outside of the wall. There was a backup plan, getting in through smaller windows that I'd heard could be taken off from the outside, but I couldn't figure out how.

I could have asked one of the other people in that suite to leave a window unlocked, but somehow that would have felt like cheating.

A couple days later I was eating potato chips and she managed to sneak up behind me at my desk (which doesn't face the door). Accursed alure of potato chips! I should have known better.

Unfortunately, no pictures. The fact that we were being stealthy like (and that it seems like a bad idea to post illustrated instructions on forced entry to our dwellings) means that there weren't any good pictures to be had.

From another point of view:
I actually intended to win the duel by sneaking up on Lizard Boy while he was playing video games with other people. However before I found a chance for that, a new opportunity arose. As I was walking on my way to visit some other friends, I noticed that Lizard Boy’s door was open. I did not even know if he was in the room, but I had to check. What if this was my only chance before he found me? So I ran up the stairs and then quietly removed my shoes and jacket. I left my keys and the papers I was carrying also, to avoid making any noise. I peeked in the door. There he was at his desk with his back towards me. I knew I would have to be very quiet. I held my breath as I tiptoed across the room. And “tap tap”, I had won. Hooray! I owe it to the potato chips!
