Footwear Documentation by Johnny Frat

June 9th, 2006 12:17 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document footwear on public transportation.

Walnut Creek Bart Station 7:20 am 6/9/06

Everyone not dressed for work is wearing generic tennis shoes, the kind you buy at Target for 19.99. They are always white.
All the well dressed men headed West (San Francisco) have shiny loafers in black or brown. Even the few who have more casual shoes for the commute still look polished and dirt free.
The women split evenly. Half dress in sneakers and carry large bags with bulges that must be the other pair they slip into at the office. The other half of women wear a variety of open and closed toed high heeled shoes. The more slim and attractive the woman, the higher her heels go and the less sensible they look.

Headed East (Pittsburgh) the shoes are beat up, dirty, covered in paint splotches. Work boots, ratty sneakers, scuffed and laceless black loafers. One pair of flip flops. A teenage girl wears a pair of white shoes with no heels that look as thin and padded as a slipper.

I myself am wearing white sneakers with my shirt and tie for the bike ride to work. I keep blackloafers in the middle drawer of my desk.
