I enjoy spending time in the park, the Redwood forest section specifically, as such I see Banana Slugs on a somewhat regular basis.
The Arionidae Ariolimax is a long slimy dude that is green or bright yellow in color. It eats decaying leaves and poops out rich, healthy soil. It can't move very fast but it looks cool and keeps the forest healthy. Perhaps it is for these traits that it was chosen to be the UC Santa Cruz mascot.
The Banana Slug is a native to the pacific coast, and has two pairs of eye stalks, and one large muscuar foot.
I found a Banana Slug once while walking with my grandmother, and very uncharitaristically of her, she picked it up!
