Pop-T[art] by KenDragon

June 26th, 2006 8:22 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Purchase pop-tarts, toaster strudels, whatever you will. Also purchase some frosting.

From there, proceed to re-create a popular pop-art piece; imagine Warhol's Mao in a creamy delicious form, or one of Lichtenstein's work's as a tasty confection.

But decoration is not enough - you must feed it to a complete stranger, (if you can, a museum curator would be great!), have them critique your work, and ultimately consume it.

Being that it was pride weekend, I figured why not recreate a piece of art very applicable to the event - the rainbow flag. I put down a layer of vanilla frosting. Since the only poptart that was even close to the color of the flag was the frosted strawberry, I found it necessary to mix some frosting with some food coloring and “paint” the poptarts the appropriate color. So then, of course, I needed to get some opinions on the art piece.

Here was my day on Sunday.

Most people were skeptical until they tried the concoction. A few of the conversations were along the lines of:

“So what’s in it”
“Pure Sugar”
“No drugs?”
“No”
“How good can it be?”
“Try it”
“Wow! This is very good!”

A few interested parties stopped being interested once they found out no drugs were involved in the making.

Nice!

I was down there all day too. Wish I had run into you to see the dish.

Awesome!
And not what I had expected, which makes it even cooler. I imagined people using the pop-tart as the canvas.

Well done.

I say bonus for pride!
Also, I'm perfectly fine with drugs, but in this case, I say Bonus for no drugs. Cuz those conversations are too funny. (actually, I just think it's awesome you involved other people like this)

Yummy?????

I really want to know how many people's fingers were in this during the day...

SPOOOOOOON!

No fingers, we bought a large number of disposable spoons and gave one to everyone that wanted a taste.
