Art gone postal by The Vixen

July 10th, 2007 10:35 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a piece of art…
Apply proper postage.
Mail it to The Envelope Collective

I wanted to make an elaborate postcard with a watercolor/ink illustration and on the other side would be nearly a whole newspaper page with whiteout poems all over. I then got sick of trying to get the whiteout on the intended lines without having it drip onto the words I wanted visible so I thought, "F*ck it, why not just use what I have and make a pint-size card?" I think it turned out kind of cute.

Anyways, the poem just kind of appeared as I covered the unneeded words, but that's how it usually is with whiteout poems. I'll provide a more coherent form of the poem below but keep in mind: the line breaks should be ambiguous. The format I put it in is simply my own interpretation of the flow. Oh, and I'll buy a stamp tomorrow when I mail it; I'm broke so I'll have to search around for some change :(

that moment
I was caught up in the symbolism of it all,
the fact that
so visibly
those many reluctant tremors suggest
cadences of mind

searching for the most precise nuances and distinctions

sculpt a superior voice
possess those aspects that tend to lift up into
sonorous poetry
respond to the gravity of an invisible core
and journeys not expected

Hope you put a return address on that…
I once mailed a piece that size and it got returned to me…
Postcard:
• Maximum size is 6” long X 4 1/4” high
• Minimum size is 5” long X 3 1/2” high

Thats a nice mini-postcard, it would be a shame if the usps misplaced it

I sure did

Yea, I put a return address on it; I hope that they won't send it back. If they do, it would be cool to have it though because I rarely keep the hard copies of my writing or wannabe art. We'll see though.

I have no life. Period. Except for the two hour a day Anthropology class at UC Berkeley and a weekend + Friday job as a temptress/hostess at Berkeley's best Italian Restaurant. You WILL come into this restaurant, won't you? (seductively reveals more of her neckline)... Being broke is a way of life.

Are you one of those girls who shouts "buona sera!!!"
I love to just stop and talk to those girls in little Italy and learn pedestrian italian!

Nah, I can't speak italian for shit. I'm still trying to pronounce "trattoria" with the "th" sound at the beginning. Unfortunately, I tend to pronounce stuff on the menu in either a french or spanish accent. At least I'm trying :/
