Not The intended Use by Luai Lashire

July 6th, 2008 9:25 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Use something but not for its intended use.

Paper clips are rather ingenious little devices which, although originally intended for the mundane task of holding pages together, can be used in a variety of exciting ways. For the completion of this task, I chose to use a chain of these small objects to decorate and hold up my glasses, for I am a very forgetful person and I like to have my glasses on a chain so I do not misplace them.
First I gathered my materials. I needed my glasses (of course), paperclips, and something with which to hold the paperclips onto the glasses. I experimented, and eventually settled on very tiny rubber bands, which I originally purchased to use in my hair. I guess that means I was using them for something other than their intended purpose, as well.

After that, I took the paper clips (already assembled into a chain; I do that when I'm bored) and attached them to the glasses. I did this by taking the two paper clips at the end, and sliding them over the ends of the ear-hooks (or whatever they're called) of my glasses.

Here's a close-up so you can see just how it's done:

Finally, I took my tiny rubber bands and stretched them over the ends of the ear-hooks. I looped each one around 3 times so it would be very tight and not slide off. The rubber bands worked by blocking the paper clips from sliding off the ends of the glasses.
It's kind of hard to see them, but here's a photo anyway:

And now I can wear my creation:

(apologies for crappy laptop camera shot, I was too lazy to get out the tripod for a proper shot)
