Move the goal posts, realign the teams,
Super Vote.

It has quite often been said in the comments how certain tasks are so well executed, that people would want to vote for them twice or give them a Super Vote - a vote worth more points than standard.
As I understand it, in the last era, each player only got a finite number of votes to bestow per level. This made each vote more precious, this has its good points and its bad points - a greater focus on quality but also a less generous environment; and as we all know it's as much fun to give as to receive.
It could work that the two eras' voting systems could be integrated, with every player getting an unlimited supply of standard votes, but only 5 Super Votes per level.
Additionally, each level's Super Vote could be worth an exponential amount e.g.
Standard Vote = 5 pts
Level 0 = N/A
Level 1 = 7 pts
Level 2 = 10 pts
Level 3 = 12 pts
Level 4 = 15 pts
Level 5 = 17 pts
Level 6 = 20 pts
Level 7 = 22 pts
Level 8 = 25 pts
This would mean that the kudos of the more dedicated players is worth more points - which once again is a double edged sword.
Another alternative is to give each player only one Super Vote per level but the option to purchase more by donating money to the site upkeep. There would have to be an upper limit on how many votes you were allowed to buy per level or people could abuse this very easily.
(I had another idea along this line of being able to buy access to a task you're not in the right group for, but this feels a bit mercenary - selling loopholes in the game structure would undermine it - as well as hindering cross-group collaborations)
All the above systems seem, to my untrained eye, as if they might involve a lot of complicated programming however so here is my simplest alternative.
My final alternative is that Super Vote be accumulative in the same way that Flagging is. When a completion receives 5 x flags it earns the big red X. How about having another button for Super Vote that if it is pressed by 5 players means the completion earns a big gold star!

very interesting idea. I am generally happy that voting has become un-restricted, but i'm not sure how I feel about super voting. It feeds back into the problem of points vs. votes. This has been an ongoing debate, I for one feel like points are useless, except for accessing better tasks. Would super votes simply lead to more points? I go in streaks where i am more liberal with my votes, other times more stingy. But all I ever want is votes. A gold star seems like it might end up being synonymous with the fleur, except that certain tasks are likely to never recieve a super vote. i'm just rambling, need to think on this one for a while
before the glasnost era, a vote could give you anywhere from 2 to 40 (+or-) points depending on the level of task. which meant, the first 6-8 votes would double your score.
this allowed for 2 tasks to reach over 1000 points in the "impossible exchange". The potential high scoring value of votes on high level tasks is kindof a turnoff to potential voters, as they may feel a task has received more credit than it deserved.
if super votes were to be worth extra points, i would worry that they would have this effect. even if no points, i think rare votes wouldn't work so well just because of the inconsistent flow of the praxis.
example my puclic sign makeover task was in the praxis for less than 24 hours, however, if i had posted it 30 hours later, it would have been in the praxis for about 3 days. would that have affected how many votes i got? maybe not much, but proly a little.
my point being that a rare vote would potentially not get distributed fairly.

what if the super-vote acted as a nomination for a task to be featured?
Now I see why you were annoyed that I submitted my description of the Super Vote first! Sorry!
Well, this is a purer version of the Super Vote idea, my proposal is more complicated; so I think both ideas can stand...
I'm waiting to see a few more proposals before I start casting votes.
Your version of the word 'first' must be different to the one most other people use.
Anyway, I'm not annoyed, this is very unique task you've made - very introspective of the community.
super vote as a nomination for featureing. Great idea!
lowteck, do you really think that happened--people turning off because high-point tasks get overvalued? Also, were other people bothered by the prospect of a high level task getting enough votes to make it worth more than 1000? I wasn't ever bothered by that. Just because the high score task is worth a thousand, that doesn't mean other tasks can be worth that much. Theoretically any task can be worth 1000 points, if enough people vote on it--there's well over 200 players now (200*5=1000, yes?). Were other people bothered by that?this allowed for 2 tasks to reach over 1000 points in the "impossible exchange". The potential high scoring value of votes on high level tasks is kindof a turnoff to potential voters, as they may feel a task has received more credit than it deserved.
or a super duper gold star
