Designated Group Membership or Basis of Disadvantage by Moist

February 10th, 2007 10:52 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: State personal experiences of substantial and chronic social disadvantage in American society, not in other countries.

I'll never know for sure, but I suspect I was fired from my first post-college job because I'm gay.

Why suspect this? Well, the day before I was fired I was working on something when the guy who had my job before me came in to say hello. The lead leaned over to me and said "they fired him because he was a fag." But the way he said it seemed an awful lot like he was delivering a warning to me. The next day I was fired. I was 24, fresh out of college, and didn't want to take the chance of getting "black listed" in the industry so I didn't do anything (something I'll always regret.) Were something like that to happen today I would not be so timid.
