Finger painting never gets old by Metsuki
April 22nd, 2009 8:19 PM
(I feel like such a loser. I started typing up this task way back in fall but had to stop and failed to finish it.)
The original purpose of this paint excursion was to create proof of my art for my Art for Teachers class. Nonetheless this didn't help us feel any less like a frosted cake. My full blame is on the neon dye.
Metsuki and I first set looking for a recipe. While we stumbled across many, the easiest and cheapest one said, corn starch or baby poweder, cold cream, food dye and a bit of water. It's directions: "two parts cornstarch, one part cold cream" adding water for consistenecy. We said what the hell and pour some baby powder into a cup and kept adding water and cold cream to create what looked like metallic white frosting. MmmMmgood.
From there we sought to divide up our creation into 7 not quite equal blobs of cold cream and baby powder. We then added our neon colors swirling the mixture with our potato forks (biodegradablebaby). The results were beautiful.
Being cautious at first we applied our awesome face paint with a spoon, then a knife. Nothing had the effect we wanted so in went the hands. We were inspired by Matisse's "Woman with a Hat". But what fun is it to follow someone's design.
With our face completely frosted the cam whoring began. At one point we crept down the hall into the bathroom to gather more paper towels and use the mirror. The girl in the bathroom didn't seem surprised or interested in my grotesque creation.
Cleaning up was fairly easy. I just shoved my head into the sink and turned the faucet on. My hands accomplished the rest.

Good approximation of the Matisse painting, says I.
