Despite techno-fear, I insisted that Pan take the picture. The timer ruins things. Never going off soon enough, or too soon, and the candid moment of user interaction makes it more alive. More lifelike. Handheld's always grabbed me when it's time to provide a moment of reality. Without a person behind the viewfinder, the camera's an idiot eye with a countdown. The idiot eye will never love me the way another person will.

Photography, after all, needs to be an act of love.
