A perhaps borring but very simple suggestion:

Show (and therefore, allow to be marked read or deleted) more than five messages at a time.

I have messages forwarded to a gmail account, but the "8 gobillion New!" notice constantly taunts me when I'm perusing the site. For a site AJAX friendly enough to allow aribitraryly sized movies to be uploaded and tossed around, displaying 50 message subjects at a time should be as easy as fliping a light switch.
