ok so i was on vacation in minnesota recently and i found this sign at the entrance to the mall of america...it was funny to me because clearly in california we cant really just bring guns around with us...anyways here it goes...

I'm not crazy, the lawmakers of Minnesota are! Jesus didn't say anything about guns! I think we should ban the internal combustion engine, that killed many more people than guns. Especially when they put guns and internal combustion engines together and built war machines. I could get behind banning those!

and she tells me that guns ARE bad and that they should all be taken away and dismantled. She also told me that people who think guns are ok are CRAZY!!!

I've always thought it was funny. Funny ha ha and funny sad. Minnesota passed a Personal Protection Act in 2003, permitting people to conceal-and-carry firearms. The wording of the law was such that it was, after a fashion, illegal to prevent people from carrying guns. But an allowance was made that if places of business didn't want guns on their property, they had to say so in a particular way, using signs (I am given to understand that provisions of the law dictated even the font of the signs, and further suggested that you had to issue a verbal warning (saying, "we demand that you comply").
Furthermore, there were absent any liability protections in the law such that lawyers for pretty much every business in the state warned their clients that if gunplay did break out on their property, even if it was between legally sanctioned concealed-firearms carriers, the owners of the business might still be held liable, not the shooters themselves. Thus the signs sprang up like mushrooms. Businesses intended to shield themselves from liability. Other businesses also made it a point of pride, a point of saying "we're not down with this new law."
The law was declared unconstitutional in 2005, though the 25,000 permits which were issued are supposedly still valid.
I happen to like guns. But I also happen to think the politics of this issue as it's played out here are reeeeeeeDICKulous.
