The Things We Bury For Our Friends by beverly penn, Ink Tea
June 8th, 2006 7:05 AM
Many of us in Minneapolis know each other already, but Nicole and I have never met, so it was suggested to me that I bury something for her. We contacted one another, and decided to each bury something for the other one, and discovered we had much the same taste.
Nicole to Ink:
Behind and across from a wedge there sits a house.
It has been abandoned for ages, it seems.
Six months running, and no one has been home.
So lonely the Toyota in the driveway,
only a van and a pile of tiles
keep it company.
That and the cats--cats, like Garfield-- at 2211.
The tiles now have a companion--
beautiful words wrapped in a package.
Ink to Nicole:
If you need more hints you'll have to let me know. This will require a little research, but I checked it myself, so you should be okay.
Between the Bearings of Baker
and where skyward trains bend
you'll find treasure is buried
guarded by a froggy friend.
He hides beneath the olive branch,
strange vehicles will pass.
There's no need to fear of
two wheels, no electricity, no gas.
Neither of us knew the other was burying a poet for the other, and Nicole had no idea that she’d inspire another task. Nicole and I plan to actually meet one another soon.
(Nicole will upload her photos later?)
Yes, Nicole (that's me) will upload her photos. Right now as a matter of fact.
I must commend Ink Tea on the packaging of her buried book of poems. She did a tremendous job of making it look like garbage so others wouldn't be tempted to pry.
