Find something. Write about it. by beverly penn

June 1st, 2006 5:08 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: I found a letter while waiting for MUNI. It was a love/hate letter to "Adriano" from "Helen" and part of it read:

"I have done nothing but house you, feed you, keep you high, give you money, smokes, {and} keep you high. People like you are worse than ordinary people who fuck people over."

Naturally, I laughed and laughed and show this note to everyone I meet (I carry it in my pocket everywhere I go).

What have you found? Where?

On June 1st, here is what I have found:
1) It is not easy to find something worthy of note. It is easy to "spot", "notice" or "recognize" many things, but not find.
2) It is very easy to lose things. Perhaps those lost things will become someone else's found item. Perhaps they will write about it.
3) The thing that most people leave behind for others to pick up after them is garbage (this could be both literal or figurative garbage, or both).
4) That I don't always find that #3 is true; only today, when I tried to find something really wonderful, but did not.
5) The cliched notion that you do not find what you are looking for until you stop looking for it comes to mind, but I dislike cliches, and so will move onto...
6) where I find that I have completed this task.

On June 2nd:
I found something
