Still Flying: How 'Firefly' was Never Canceled

Joss Whedon's award-winning television series, 'Firefly', is set to enter its sixth season in September of this year after a stunning and widely-acclaimed finale. River Tam, her psychosis now mostly under control, prepares to use her enhanced abilities to infiltrate the Alliance's assassin organization with the help of Shepherd Book and the Children of Abaddon, the anti-government group who helped Simon in River's rescue. Simon works closely with Emma Ling-Santores to determine the nature of a Blue Sun chemical compound believed to be incorporated in their food products. Captain Reynolds, believing that another war is imminent, must decide whether the chance to unmask a corrupt government and the hope of change are worth the lives of his crew and his ship. The varied goals of Serenity's crew have diverged to the point that they must either choose to work together or separate once and for all, and the ever-present black of space holds more danger for them, together or alone, than ever before.

After surviving Fox's cancellation of the show, 'Firefly' was picked up by The WB Television Network for its second season, then moved to the CW in 2006. Joss Whedon, cast and crew have garnered numerous awards over the show's five-year run.

Note: I didn't mention Zoe, Wash, Kaylee or Inara, but they're still there! Kaylee doesn't like Emma Ling or the UST between Emma and Simon, but since Simon gave her a ring last season, she's mostly sure she doesn't have anything to worry about. Or... does she? Zoe and Wash have married problems that are running deeper than ever; Wash knows that they're getting into deep waters and is unsure he wants to stay and get blown to pieces, but he knows Zoe won't leave Serenity, and Wash doesn't want to ask her. Inara, blacklisted by the Companions after her secret was discovered, is still trying to find her place in the crew while looking for another refuge, and she's determined that this place is nowhere near Mal.

The season finale kicked butt. Whedon is a genius!! Now, raise your hand if you want to live in my reality!! Also, if you want to ADD to the reality, leave your comments on what you liked about the previous five Firefly seasons, your favorite scenes, etc.

worshipping Josh Wedon as a God.

I am so totally living in your reality right now...in addition, Wash never died!!!!

Didn't happen.

I don't care that Josh likes to kill all the good characters...it still didn't happen.

Heh - Wash didn't die, Book didn't die, AND we got to learn some of Book's secrets, and Inara's big ol' secret got let out, too.

And River is sort of... remember Galadriel and what she would have been like if she took the Ring from Frodo instead of refusing it? River is right at that edge, right now. So powerful that she could do great good or great evil, depending on which way the quarter falls.

My husband told me last night that after Fox canceled the show, the rights to Firefly were sold (I dunno by who?) to a company that never intended to produce it, thus killing the project. ;_;

It's a beautiful world
