Feats Of Strength by Oliver X

June 3rd, 2006 4:18 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Challenge a stranger to compete with you in a feat of strength, will, or speed. Arm wrestling, for example.

Oliver X vs Spaceman

Scene: the conclusion of the fairly strange business meeting I alluded to in Work Is So Strange. My host, who I'd just met, is the self-made billionaire and private cosmonaut Mark Shuttleworth.

"Before you go, I'd like to ask you for a strange favor."

"Favor?"

"Yes, I'd like to challenge you to an arm wrestling match."

"Arm wrestling?!" (this surprises everyone present)

"Yes. It's part of a strange game and you'd be perfect for it."

"But you're like a rock climber!"

"I'm also quite sick today, so you'll probably win."

"Ah, what the hell."

The match lasted almost an entire minute and a small crowd gathered.

...one can out match a cosmonaut in physical prowess.

Dammit Man! I can't convince anyone to arm wrestle me! And I'm smaller and cuter, too. Dammit! And there's no matching armwrestling a billionaire cosmonaut in London! Wait! He's not a stranger! You know him! You work for him! I dispute your task!

I didn't meet him until yesterday, and no, I absolutely do not work for him.

Mark Shuttleworth?! Who are you, Oliver? SF0 uses a ton of open source this'n'thats - should I be thanking you for work on somethingorother? Or does SF0 high-score-dom just lead to billionaire arm wrestling? I look forward to a postcard from strangers from friends to Mark Cuban, or perhaps a collaboration with Mitch Kapor to sell a forgery on eBay...
