Object Annotation by Xena, Mindi Jenkins

July 18th, 2008 2:49 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

Oiy oiy. Another OC Fair task. This is last one my sister and I did at the fair and my favorite results BY FAR.

The local public object that was chosen was the inside of the ferris wheel ride. =)
Here are images of the ferris wheel:

So let's backtrack a bit.
For this task, we first wrote a letter to the ferris wheel and here is the rough draft:
Photobucket

The letter says:

(Before, you read this, please note there is a South Park reference).

Oh Ferris Wheel!
How my heart is saddened for you.
Years and years, you have been used and abused.
The people of America have never appreciated you the way I have.
No one thanks you for the polluted air you provide.
No one thanks you for the malfunction rounds you've overcome.
No one thanks you for all the times you've provided hard, germ-infested seats, which have helped procreate the newfound losers of tomorrow.
Baby, I want YOU inside ME.
I want you to be my dream machine.
For I feel so safe in your diseased and vandalized, uninhabited form.
I want to flavor you spicy.
Cause you almost make me forget about.....tacos.

If you didn't catch the South Park reference, the episode can be watched here:

Now for every one or two words on the note was individually written on a post-it note.
So we go on to writing every word down in order on post-its.

And here is what the first sentence looked like:

So my sisters and I (only one sister collaborated, the second sister is far too young), waited in line and finally got into the ferris wheel. And we decided to post our letter of thanks to the roof of the seat we were in.
Here is the before:

And here are pictures AND A VIDEO of us posting them AS FAST as we could. For every time the ferris wheel was heading up, we were standing, taking pictures and posting. We had no idea when the ride was over, and we had to sit down quickly when the ferris wheel would approach the bottom. Thus, the entire time we were tense, panicking, in fret, and arguing with each other in the process.

Then we used the rest of our post-its to say thanks.

Ok. So now this is where things get really messed up and weird. We land after 5 turns and the guy who was in charge of putting people in the ferris wheel in and tell people to leave, starts yelling EY EY EY at us as we're powerwalking our way out. This of course causes us to RUN AS FAST AS WE COULD.

So as we're running away, I turn my head to see what was going on, around the car of the ferris wheel we were in was a crowd of staff members reading the ceiling, and people in line pointing at us as we made our "in-discreet get away."

When we're finally far enough away from view, we watch the ferris wheel and notice that it hadn't budged since we ran. And it didn't move at all for 20 minutes. =)

We head back to wait in a line for a ride right next to the ferris wheel (blending in the crowds of course) to see what had happened. And when we get there.......there is security all over....and of course we start CRACKING UP!

Finally, some security left but not all (this is when I decide to take pictures of the some of the security guards).

The guy in the blue shirt was standing in front of the line we were waiting for and asked us if we could save his spot to ask the security what was going on (and I felt SUPER SUPER LUCKY)!
He came back and said that security stated "Some kids vandalized one of the Ferris Wheel cars"

And so here's what my sister and I could not understand/get over:

POST IT NOTES --------------> VANDALISM?

Total vote for having the guts to stick around! Unfortunately in our post 9/11 paranoid world, anything that looks out of the ordinary, left behind, is considered both scary and vandalism. Pitiful, really. What you did was really cool, though!

Thanks guys. Seriously, before this picture there was a lot of security, it was too difficult to take a picture without looking suspicious. BUT IT WAS RIDICULOUS!
