Nice To Meet You by Scarlett
August 12th, 2007 9:15 PM
This greeting card was filed in Wallgreens (purveyor of all things essential) under the heading, "Encouragement".
It goes to the next person at work who quits. The probability of handing it to someone in the next week or so is high. My company pretty much hemorrhages employees.
The envelope reads, "It's your last day..."
The front of the card has some smart-looking legs wearing a pair on stilleto boots and says, "Some booty-kicking boots...".
The inside continues, "Just in case you need them."
My inscription: These boots were also made for walkin'. Congrats & Best Wishes, Lisa

The very next work day (a Monday), I arrived to find that someone had put in their notice! I giggled in anticipation; my plan was moving along quite smoothly. But when would be her last day? The way things go at my workplace, putting in your two weeks means that you might get to leave that very day and get paid for doing nothing, or they might ask you to stay for an indeterminate number of days and do menial tasks. This particular employee was asked to stay. That Friday I was sick and went home early, and was CHAGRINED to learn after the fact that that had been her last day. I missed it. The card still sat unopened in my drawer. Blast! (I had no intention of going to her goodbye party for a belated carding.)
There was now a chance that I would be giving this card to myself, since I was planning to put in my notice that following Monday. This was an exciting prospect, and also made me giggle, but it did not come to pass.
On Monday both I and another co-worker put in our notice(s). Her last day was Friday of that week. When she went around saying her goodbyes, I knew the time had come. I grabbed the card and bounded around a row of cubicles. "Wait, this is for you" I cried, and handed her the sealed envelope. "Awww, thanks Lisa, you're the only person who got me a card" was her reply. I wasn't sure whether to feel like I was nice for giving her a card, or bad for not getting the card specifically for her. Regardless, she felt special, and I got a hug for my efforts.
