Trespassing the Future by Micah Parrish

June 6th, 2008 6:19 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to a place you will not be able to go to in 10 years; for instance, a place under development that will never be the same again.

I did this task quite selfishly the first time, and forced myself to do it a second time, correctly. this is why I have 2 different sets (or settings) of photos. The first is something I have wanted to do for a couple of months and obviously misinterpreted 'cause these theatre riggings are in fairly decent up keep and will forever belong to this building until the bitter end itself. I merely interpreted the task as someplace I won't be around in 10 years and I thought "Well... Hell, I'm never coming back to the High School Theatre anyways" and basically took the opportunity and left it at that. ~If you care to see the first set plese view the indexed pictures at the bottom~ The second Mess of pictures is something I like to call "Rock Bottom Bank" and Is currently in the process of being remodled (even though you can't tell the difference because the place is still pretty rough) The only place you can see any work being done is on the last picture in the main lobby.

The first set is a contrast in many ways from the latter, Not only in upkeep and a difference in age, but also the first was done with a very sturdy tripod, (except where mentioned) and had not much use for the flash, and I had help from two ladies (THANK YOU), whereas the bank scene was done more guerrilla style, Bare camera strapped to my right hand and flashlight in the other, tripod-less, all using flash, and I was all by myself. Also the first, I had permission to climb around on. The second I surely did not.

The feeling was overwhelming directly after breaking in, like rotting nostalgia This feeling only worsened as I decided to take the stairway to the left, going downstairs. main_mcp003455739.jpg

Still like a fool I kept going, I had only one goal, to find the room of records I had found a couple of years ago...main_mcp003555740.jpg

Off to the right there was a long hallway or more rooms, I didn't go that way...main_mcp003755741.jpg

Pass more rooms that had been destroyed, and further I gomain_mcp003955742.jpg

I pass the Boiler room shortly after, Note: creepy work table in lower right hand side.main_mcp004355852.jpg

Then the ROOM! Fabulous Wonderful Records! ok I guess they weren't too wonderful, they're the ones that got left behind, But I still like them and I have their memory to share with everyone now.main_mcp005055744.jpg

Files upon Files...main_mcp006655748.jpg

Books...main_mcp006355747.jpg

And records, some dating back to the early 1900'smain_mcp006855759.jpg

Just boxes and stacks of papers,main_mcp007255763.jpg

I was standing all over them.main_mcp007455765.jpg

So I had my time, and got my proof, and decided to be on my way, In my excitement for seeing the room I walked right past the vault! main_mcp007755766.jpg

Vault Innards-main_mcp004555743.jpg

I thought I could get out by going up some nearby stairs, ( obviously the pigeons thought they could get out that way too!main_mcp007855767.jpg

Uh Oh DEAD END-main_mcp008555770.jpg

So at this point i back tracked the very silent and stale way back up to the original stairs I came down. Notice the wear on the railing.main_mcp009055771.jpg

I then climbed to the upper area, and now I am standing taking pictures off of the overlook about fifteen feet above the lobby. main_mcp009855772.jpgTHANKS SO MUCH FOR LOOKING!!!
